How to use the Duty Roster Maker
1. Enter people and duties
List each person on a separate line in the first box and each duty on a separate line in the second. For a classroom, you might enter Whiteboard, Recycling, and Handouts. At work, you could use Opening, Mail, and Kitchen. Blank lines are ignored.
2. Choose the schedule
Set the start date, frequency (daily, weekly, or every other week), and number of rounds. A daily roster skips weekends by default. To assign a duty to a pair or small group, increase People per duty.
3. Choose how people are assigned
Fair rotation keeps the total number of assignments per person within one assignment of one another and balances each duty as evenly as possible. When enough people are available, no one is assigned to more than one duty in the same round. Random shuffles the assignments each time, so the totals may vary. The assignment totals below the roster show how often each person has each duty.
4. Copy or print the roster
Select Copy roster to copy a tab-separated table. Paste it into Excel or Google Sheets to place the values in cells. Select Print to print the roster without the form or guide.
When there are not enough people
If a round needs more people than the team has, someone will cover more than one duty. A notice appears above the roster. Add team members or reduce the number of duties to avoid overlapping assignments.
