What this tool can and cannot tell you
- Registrable domains and subdomains are estimates. A URL alone cannot always identify their exact boundary.
- A number in a path, such as
/products/123, is not automatically a product ID or path parameter. Its meaning depends on the server-side routing rules. - This tool never visits the URL. It does not check whether the destination exists, is safe, or returns a particular HTTP status.
- If a URL contains a password, it is not shown in plain text, copied, or saved.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between a URL and a domain?
- A domain, such as example.com, is one part of a URL that identifies a site. A URL is the full address, including the scheme, domain, path, query parameters, and sometimes a fragment.
- What are the characters after ? in a URL?
- They are query parameters. They pass extra information as key-value pairs, such as search terms, filters, or page numbers. This tool preserves repeated keys instead of overwriting them.
- What do strings such as %20 or %E3 mean?
- They are percent-encoded characters. URLs use this format for characters such as spaces and non-ASCII text. Open the Encoding tab to compare the original and encoded forms.
- Are URLs with and without www the same?
- They have different hostnames. A site may redirect both to the same destination, but that depends on its configuration.
