- What makes a password strong?
- Length and character variety matter most. Aim for at least 12 characters (ideally 16 or more) mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols, and avoid guessable details such as names or birthdays. The default settings here (16 characters, all character types) meet these conditions.
- How should I store generated passwords?
- Avoid paper notes and plain text files. A dedicated password manager is the safest option. If you let your browser save passwords, make sure the device itself is protected with a screen lock.
- Why is reusing passwords dangerous?
- If one service leaks your password, attackers try the same one on other services (credential stuffing). Generating a unique password for every service keeps any single leak from spreading.
