HOW IT WORKS

Check first, then create a clean copy

  1. 1
    Choose photos

Add JPEG, PNG, or WebP files from your device. The files stay in your browser.

  2. 2
    Check EXIF and GPS tags

Each photo shows whether a supported EXIF GPS tag was found. The coordinates are never displayed.

  3. 3
Create and save a new image

Choose “Create a clean copy” to rebuild the image in your browser. Preview the result, then save it.

How is the new image made?

When you choose a photo, this page reads the file in your browser and checks JPEG APP1, PNG eXIf, or WebP EXIF data for a GPS tag. It does not display the coordinates.

When you create a clean copy, the browser decodes the photo into pixels, draws those pixels onto a new Canvas, and exports a new image file. It does not edit the original file. The export is generated from Canvas pixels rather than by copying the original file container.

The HTML Standard defines Canvas export as a new image serialized from the Canvas bitmap. This means the original EXIF, GPS, XMP, and IPTC fields are not copied as-is. The browser may add new technical information required by the output format. Formats that store resolution metadata use 96 dpi for Canvas exports.

JPEG and WebP are re-encoded at quality 96, so image quality or file size may change slightly. PNG is also exported as a new Canvas image.

HTML Standard: Canvas image export

The GPS status checks supported EXIF GPS tags only. This page does not list every metadata field or inspect all metadata in the exported file, so it cannot guarantee complete removal in every browser and image format. For especially sensitive photos, check the saved file with a separate metadata viewer that runs on your device. Text and people visible in the photo are not changed. GIF and HEIC are not supported.
